Hello Everyone!

Itty Bitty Kitty Cottage, In January of this year, my husband and I purchased our first home - a cottage built in 1909. Believe it or not, this property is located just two miles outside of downtown Pittsburgh! When we first bought it, the yard was overrun with trees and shrubs, as no one had occupied the home for two years. We broke two chainsaws trying to tear down the overgrowth, then gave up and hired a stump grinder. We ended up painting pretty much every surface on the exterior except for the siding, and even parts of that needed repaired. Just as we got everything done and looking great, our sewage line broke and a team of professionals came in to tear up our porch and replace pipes. It was miserable, but all is well again., Home Exterior Design

Cottage Kitchen on a Budget, The kitchen was the last room we tackled during our 8-month total home renovation. We completely gutted the space and started from scratch, reconfiguring it into an L-shape. We really wanted to preserve the unpretentious vintage cottage look -the house was built in 1909 - so no granite counter tops for this girl! Our budget was around 12K and that included all the mechanics, labor and a few nightmares along the way (including a contractor that walked out on the job). I should also mention that our kitchen is in the "basement" of our home. Pittsburgh, PA has quirky homes like that! However, since the house has really high ceilings and is built on a hill that slopes down and the kitchen leads out onto a deck and has full windows, I refuse to call it the basement., Kitchens Design

Keen on Light Green Master Bedroom, Here's another space in my house that was a dark, unsightly color when I moved in. Check out the before pictures! On a budget of about $300, I painted the room, added some new accessories, created an art gallery with personal travel photos and swapped out the linens. I wasn't too sure about the light green at first - it felt a little too much like a nursery color - but now that the room is finished, I'm so glad I went with this pale shade, since our furniture is dark and heavy. This is my first attempt at a monochromatic design. If it seems boring and relaxing, that's just the look I was going for in this master bedroom., Bedrooms Design

Pops of Color Living Room, When I first moved into this turn-of-the-century rowhouse, the living room walls were a ghastly dark brown. I suffered with the color for about four months before having an interior design crisis one weekend; I NEEDED to brighten up the walls, stat. One day, a can of white paint, a few new accessories, and some tweaking of the furniture completely transformed it. You might notice that a lot of the elements in this room were pulled from my former home's bedroom, which I also have pictures of on RMS. This colorful and eclectic living room is now one of my favorite places in the house!, Living Rooms Design

Lofty Black 'n Blue Bedroom, I rent this loft (thus the lack of paint) and did everything on a tight budget. I have a very ecclectic style and would say this room is the most cohesive room of all the ones in my home. I love the icy blue and black color scheme, with pops of orange. , Bedrooms Design
